As a young lad Dertray's physic was strong, he was tall aproximately 6 feet, lean and muscular. Now that he's aged and slowed down a bit he's grown a small pouch of a gut, but still has defined muscles in his arms and chest. His once sandy blonde boyish hair that was always messy is now peppered with soft greys and whites. His smile is broken with pain at the loss of his giant brute of a bronze Jraith. His once warm soft blue eyes grown more chilly and lost, the only thing that brings the sparkle back is his family. Namely Sakura, and Kay his daughter.
Tray has many scars marred over his body. He his a few puncture wounds from protecting Sakura and his family on his gut and shoulder. There is a large gash of a scar that reaches from his left shoulder to just above his right buttocks. That was caused from the threadfall that killed his beloved dragon. His hands are calloused from hard work, and his arms have small scars from many hours of work at the smithy, his right hand has a large scar that was stitched up from a fight that he almost lost. Many other cuts and scars riddle his still boyish body, and most have lost their meaning.
Personality:
Phobia is a word that cannot describe Dertray's hate of healers. Especially his good friend Secat, who he loves to hate. He has a healthy, okay not healthy its really unreasonable, fear of going to a healer and would rather bleed out or suffer than go to the healer.
For hobbys Dertray loves to travel and take his mate, when they still had dragons many a time would he blindfold her and take her far away to wow her with the beautiful sites of Pern. He is a free spirit, and since travel has become harder without his beloved dragon he now can be found fixing and mending things around the weyr, he is a handman, not a crafter in any of those trades, but more than willing to help out.
Dertray tends to be a goofy spirit, though easily depressed at the though of Jraith, he rarely shows his serious side. Instead he is seen making light of most situations, and obviously getting in trouble with Sakura. Once a ladies' man and a flirt, he no longer strays from his woman (and hasn't for quite some time), however, his charming smile tends to attract unwanted attention. When his family is in danger he is extremely protective, and falls into the role of being both a father and husband easily. His love of his children tends to push the bounds and he is more likely to draw a blade and harm someone that endangers his grown children than actually talk it out. He is irrational, and stupid, how he ever became a weyrleader is beyond most. Prehaps it is because he tends to be very cocky, both his brother and him were always competitive and it shows in the way he acts and talks still.
History:
His history is very closely intertwined with Sakura, however, Dertray (as well as his brother D'rk), grew up in a less than loving family. Their father was a raging alcoholic but one of the best blacksmiths Telgar Weyr. Their mother had been a beautifully stunning green rider and they had stayed at the weyr after her passing. No one is sure exactly what killed her, she went on patrol and was found laying dead. There were dragon claw marks and it is not known, to this day, if something had happened and it was an accident with her dragon or murder. As children Sakura, Kay, Dirk and Dertray tended to spend so much time together. During that time the boys were able to hide the beatings from their friends, until one day when Dirk had to be taken to the infirmary because his father had almost ruptured his spleen. Since Dertray was older than his brother by two full turns Dertray had taken it into his own hands to defend his brother. At the age of 12 the boy had attacked his father and almost killed him. However during the investigation they had found that Dertray was acting in defense and that Tayal had beaten the boys senseless nightly.
Tayal died shortly there after, perhaps 2 maybe 3 turns later. Not due to his injuries, but due to his increasingly worse alcoholism. His liver gave out, during the ceremony for his life it was discovered that he had aproximately seven lovers at the time. Perhaps that's where Dertray got his cheating ways...? Dertray took up his father's business and began smithing daily while he hung out with his brother and friends. He grew up fast and soon fell swiftly for the beautiful Sakura. She had grown into a gorgeous woman that he couldn't possibly resist, so did Kay and for several turns he was toren between the two women.
At the ripe age of 16 turns Dertray found himself on the hot sweaty sands, alongside the two women, and surprisingly his brother. D'tray and Jraith were inserperatable from that time on. They were like brothers, and this created a rift in the once close brotherhood between D'rk and him. As hormones raged more D'tray couldn't help but flirt shamelessly with both women. He would on many occassion go out on a date with Kay one night, then Kura on the next. D'rk hated watching his brother do this and actually tried to steal Kura away from him. D'rk has always loved Sakura since, however, due to the fact his brother has always charmed Sakura more she had fallen for him.
Once the lessons were over, D'tray was infuriated when his younger brother's bronze flew Sakura's Auriath. Pnnith was happy to have mated with the queen first, and Jraith and him actually had it out one day, both dragons has/had a scar as memory of this. Things were made worse when D'rk had actually managed to get Sakura pregnant. D'tray at that time was no longer talking to the two and actually didn't know until much later when Daria was rediscovered.
During the next few turns D'tray and Kay became increasingly close, however, this was kept a secret mostly because D'tray still loved Sakura as well. What can I say? D'tray was a manwhore, he loved tail. Once D'rk and Sakura were no longer mates, for reasons D'tray did not know he finally was able to talk to the woman again, while still keeping Kay on the side.
Jraith winning Auriath's rising only added complications for the young 20something year old. And for several turns he kept his love for Kay as well secret from Kura. Sometimes he would disappear from Kura's life for weeks on end (to be with Kay), only to return with an explaination of being scared of commitment. She always forgave him somehow.
However, when he turned 33 the age of childhood was no longer upon him. As within only a few months apart D'tray learned that he was to be a father not once, but twice over from two different women! Both Kay and Sakura were heavy with -his- child. This casued his relationship with Sakura to be put to its biggest test over, as after Kay was discovered to be carrying his child she passed away during childbirth. Sakura was forgiving and for that D'tray pledged himself solely to her as they, instead of sending the babe away, raised Kay Jr. as a family. Kay would not know her origins for quiet some time.
When Taenalon arrived they kept the wailing boy as well. D'tray was infatuated with his children, but after some time of restlessness he almost fell to the demon of alcohol, and women once again. Sakura barely rescued him from this demon.
During the next eight turns nothing was really exciting for the man who settled into being a father easily. He loved both his children feriously. However when Daria came to the weyr after being searched . D'tray at first was infuriated, simply because Kay's origins seemed to be not that different than Ria's. However in the end the family was able to put aside their miss deeds. Ria became part of a huge drama filled family.
The most proudest day of all was when Kay and Taenalon both bonded. Kay to a beautiful blue Sheranith, and T'nalon to brown Birth. However, shortly after their weyrlinghood (and before Auriath died) D'tray's Jraith had gotten into a fight with Auriath after many turns the two dragons were not seeing eye to eye. Jraith flew a green out of spite, and for a bit D'tray was with a man, T'an, who yes is Kay's mate now. Its complicated. It was awkward, and D'tray doesn't like to talk about it much. Thankfully the last flight that Auriath had she allowed her Jraith back into her clutch. Kay and T'an are now mates, and though there is an awkward silence that follows the two men if they're left alone, neither will ever talk about the events that happened while they were mates. Kay just tries not to think about it at all costs.
After Auriath died D'tray made it his mission to hold and support his lover and mother of his child. He was there day in and day out sometimes forcing the woman to feed herself. His care and attention, mixed with the rest of the family, saved the love of his life from suicide. After Ria had become the weyrwoman, D'tray had travelled for and wide for a beauitful egg for Sakura. In it was their newest baby, Night. Night had a special place in D'tray's heart not just Sakura's. She is, even to this day, seen on D'trays shoulder pecking at him, stealing his food drinking his klah. He hasn't had a real meal since she came into his life, and he wouldn't change it for anything.
The final threadfall was a hard one, the man was begged not to go, but he knew he had to. Night screeched out at him as Sakura's eyes grew fearful. He kissed his woman and promised her he would return alive and well. That was the last time she would ever see Dertray fly. A score of thread fell onto his dragon and himself. His back was badly marred, and the dragon took the brunt as it barrel rolled away, Raith howled out in pain as they plummeted to the ground, dragon and rider barely alive as they laid there. The man now a boy, clung to his bronze their blood mingling and mixing as he begged Raith to stay to survive. But it was too late. Auriath waited in the nether of -between-, and as Raith howled out again in one last apology the former weyrleader watched as his pride, his joy, the second brother in his life faded away.
The man fell into great depression, darkness took the man. Causing crow's feet around his eyes, causing his hair to grey faster and his eyes to darken. Dertray had to be watched almost worse than Sakura and barely survived.
One day he woke up it was easier to wake up, it wasn't so hard to breathe, and looking at his wife and family he realized he still had enough to live for that he had to provide for them even though it wasn't really necessary.
To be able to retire, as it seems Daria and R'alras always are needing them, they moved to Snowy Hold.
